About Adele

Adele. She’s almost always been able to go by a single name—which is a mark of success all its own—but in actuality, she has four: Adele Laurie Blue Adkins.

Practically an overnight success, jazz-pop-soul singer Adele went from a just-graduated British performance-school kid with a demo on MySpace to a British chart-topper just two years later. She’s released three studio albums, and they’ve all been named after the age she was when she recorded them: 19, 21, and 25.

And the records just keep coming with them. Certified-diamond status. A record in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the first woman to have three simultaneous top-10 tracks on the Billboard 100 (among others). Several Grammys and an Academy Award. Oh, and she’s one of the best-selling recording artists in the world. Time magazine called her “music’s past, present, and future.”

They also emphasized how down-to-Earth Adele is. “Some artists, the bigger they get, the more horrible they get, and the more unlikable,” she said in an interview with Time. “I don’t care if you make an amazing album—if I don’t like you, I ain’t getting your record. I don’t want you being played in my house if I think you’re a bastard.”

More recently, she reflected on life at 25 during the debut of her album 25. “I was just shocked that all of a sudden I was 25!” she told Vogue. “But actually I like myself more than ever. I feel so comfortable in my own skin. I really like how I look, I like who I am, I like everyone that I surround myself with. Obviously I have insecurities, but they don’t hold me back.”

Adele doesn’t publicize much about her family life, but she’s been dating Simon Konecki, CEO of water charity Drop4Drop, since 2011. The two had a son, Angelo, in 2012 (and they sued paparazzi after they took photos of the family on a public outing.)

Adele has supported people with learning disabilities, children, the LBGT community, and MusiCares (which supports musicians in need) through donation campaigns and charity performances over the years.
