About Ariana Grande

Born Ariana Grande-Butera in Boca Raton, Florida, singer, actress and pop star Ariana Grande began performing at a young age in local theater productions.

At 15 Ariana landed the role of Charlotte in the musical 13 on Broadway. Her performance won her a National Youth Theatre Association Award and some serious attention. The following year she auditioned for the Nickelodeon show Victorious, set at a performing arts high school, and was cast as Cat Valentine. In 2011 Ariana released her first single, “Put Your Hearts Up.”

When Victorious ended in 2013, Ariana continued her role as Cat Valentine on Nickelodeon’s new show Sam & Cat. And after three years of studio work she released her debut album, “Yours Truly,” in 2013. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart and featured hits “The Way,” “Baby I,” and “Right There.” At the 2013 American Music Awards, she won New Artist of the Year for her work.

In 2014 Ariana performed twice at the White House, first at the “Women of Soul: In Performance at the White House” event and then at the White House Easter Egg Roll. Later that year she released her second album, “My Everything.” Rolling Stone described the album as “where the 21-year-old Nickelodeon starlet grows up.” “It’s a confident, intelligent, brazen pop statement, mixing bubblegum diva vocals with EDM break beats,” Rolling Stone’s Rob Sheffield wrote.

Billboard magazine has described her as “heir to the throne of Mariah Carey,” saying Ariana is “blessed with powerful vocals that belie her petite frame.” In 2014 the magazine named her Rising Star.

Not only did Ariana get involved with performing at a young age, she started charity work young, too. She co-founded a youth singing group called Kids Who Care and performed for charitable events when she was just 10. She has also worked with the charitable organization Broadway in South Africa, helped with Seventeen magazine’s “Delete Digital Drama” campaign to end online bullying, and participated in the Stand Up to Cancer television special.

Romantically, Ariana has been tied to rapper Big Sean and previously dated Jai Brooks, a member of the Australian YouTube group The Janoskians.
