8 Video Game Characters Who Look Uncannily Like Real Celebrities

8 Video Game Characters Who Look Uncannily Like Real Celebrities:

They say everyone has a doppelgänger somewhere, but these video game characters will have you seeing double.

Some of these similarities were definitely intentional, and some are a bit more ambiguous, but the looks are uncanny to me. Today, I show you ten of my favorite characters who look like real-life celebrities.

CHARACTER: ANDREW RYAN (‘BIOSHOCK’)
Celebrity: Howard Hughes
Andrew Ryan, the infamous antagonist of BioShock, was designed as an amalgam of several personalities. With individualism pulled from the works of Ayn Rand (which “Andrew Ryan” is a semi-anagram of), and the rampant capitalist and meritocratic leanings of Walt Disney and Howard Hughes. However, with his pencil-thin moustache and slicked back hair, his looks are all Hughes.

02 solidsnake

CHARACTER: SOLID SNAKE ('METAL GEAR SOLID’)
Celebrities: Michael Biehn ('Metal Gear’)/Sam Elliot ('Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots’)
The first *Metal Gear
character on the list has gone through several looks in the series’ 27-year history. Solid Snake’s first appearance in the debut title Metal Gear was ripped straight from a scene from The Terminator starring Michael Biehn.

However, by the time Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots rolled around in 2008, a Solid Snake affected by premature aging and rocking a sweet mustache looked suspiciously like actor Sam Elliot. Series creator Hideo Kojima is known as a huge movie buff, so the similarities aren’t surprising.

CHARACTER: ELLIE ('THE LAST OF US’)
Celebrity: Ellen Page
There was a bit of a hubbub about the similarities between the appearance of Ellie and Ellen Page back in 2013 when The Last of Us came out. Although I think they still look very much alike, Ellie’s original design was a spitting image of the Juno actress.

With Ellen fronting Quantic Dream’s Beyond: Two Souls around the same time, there were definitely some harsh feelings involved, and The Last of Us dev Naughty Dog wound up changing Ellie’s designs to make them look slightly less similar.

CHARACTER: BIG BOSS ('METAL GEAR’ SERIES)
Celebrity: Sean Connery
Like Solid Snake, Big Boss has received several redesigns over the years. In the debut Metal Gear title, Big Boss looked exactly like Sean Connery circa The Hunt For Red October.

We now know through consecutive games that Solid Snake and Big Boss look alike, and are not at all reminiscent of Sean Connery. However, it’s a safe bet that series creator Hideo Kojima had no idea of the huge overarching story he would later create over the 11 main Metal Gear games that have been released since.

CHARACTER: ULALA ('SPACE CHANNEL 5’)
Celebrity: Lady Miss Kier
The grooviest reporter alive isn’t without a real-world inspiration, with Ulala of the Dreamcast rhythm title Space Channel 5 sporting some suspiciously similar hair, makeup, and clothing to Lady Miss Kier of funk band Deee-Lite.

From Ulala’s neo-’60s attitude and colorful costumes, it’s clear Sega was interested in the band’s frontwoman, reportedly even asking to use her likeness in the game, which she refused. When Lady Miss Kier later sued Sega for supposedly using her likeness anyway, she lost the lawsuit, but the resemblance is absolutely uncanny.

06 sonyahoskins

CHARACTER: SONYA BLADE ('MORTAL KOMBAT’)
Celebrity: Kerri Hoskins
Playboy’s own former Playmate Kerri Hoskins doesn’t just resemble Mortal Kombat’s deadly Sonya Blade—she is Sonya Blade. The former glamour model and video game actress portrayed Sonya in several of the massively popular fighting game’s installments, beginning with Mortal Kombat 3.

Her entire look had become synonymous with the character by her final role as Sonya in the series, giving her a very special role in the realm of gaming beyond just being a “lookalike.”

CHARACTERS: HITMONLEE/HITMONCHAN ('POKÉMON’)
Celebrities: Bruce Lee/Jackie Chan
Both of these familiar fighting-type Pokémon are instantly recognizable, with Hitmonlee’s powerful kicks and Hitmonchan’s atomic punches, but did you know the inspirations behind them? As their names imply they’re both homages to Jeet Kune Do master Bruce Lee and Hollywood stunt legend Jackie Chan.

Technically they may not physically resemble their inspirations, but both Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan owe a great deal to the legendary martial artists who inspired the Pokémon team during their creation.

CHARACTER: KEVIN RYMAN ('RESIDENT EVIL OUTBREAK’)
Celebrity: Tom Cruise
Looking at Kevin Ryman of Resident Evil Outbreak, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone he resembles more than action film star Tom Cruise, from the charismatic personality to the toothy, pretty-boy grin.

Kevin channels Tom’s easygoing yet totally confident persona, with swept-back brown hair and “good-guy” tendencies that keep him ahead of the pack. With a sarcastic quip at the ready for any situation, Kevin serves up some Mission Impossible-era Tom Cruise while serving the Raccoon City Police Department.
