Super Mario Maker has been a hit among players, especially those who love to churn out ever more horrific, evilly difficulty Mario levels. Meanwhile, one fan is trying to create a Mario Maker-style game that will let players build in the style of another Nintendo franchise: The Legend of Zelda.
YouTuber Justin Sink is creating The Legend of Zelda Maker, a project he has been working on for a while. This week he released an “alpha” version that works, to some degree, that players can download and try. It’s still very early in development, so this is by no means complete, but it does allow players to do the basics: create Zelda-style levels, with protagonist Link, and fill them lots of different enemies, plus a few more tricks.
Of course, Nintendo being Nintendo, there’s a fair chance the project will get squashed by a cease-and-desist order. But until that happens, anybody who’s itching to try creating the kind of levels that are built on mystery, exploration, and slicing up enemies can give it a go.
