Abby Wambach Wins World Cup, Kisses Wife for America

Last night America got an extended pass to celebrate the 4th of July when the U.S. Women’s National team dusted Japan to secure a third World Cup title. After taking a stunning four-goal lead in the first 15 minutes the squad bunkered in and secured a 5-2 score to win the title in front of millions of Americans.

After the final whistlemcaptain Abby Wambach, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and veteran of two previous World Cups, ran over to the sidelines to find her wife Sarah Huffman and kiss her as a World Champion.

Huffman is a former soccer player herself, who also had a brief career with the National Team and retired as a member of the Portland Thorns.

On the heels of the Supreme Court’s decision for gay marriage, at a time when gay athletes are struggling for acceptance in the world of sports, it’s amazing to see a display of love from one of the world’s most prominent out stars.
