The official Call of Duty Twitter account seems to have confirmed that there will be a high-definition remaster release of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare some time soon. And it did so using an extremely happy poop emoji icon.
Way back in December of 2014, Twitter user Angus Vanderslott tweeted something innocuous at the Call of Duty account. In so many words, Angus relayed the feeling that a remastered Playstation 4 release of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the game that really launched the series into the stratosphere of yearly releases and billion-dollar sales figures, would make him really excited. Like, bowel-loosening levels of excitement.
On April 26, almost two full years later, the official Call of Duty account replied with this.
That seems to suggest that young Angus should carry a second pair of pants with him in the near future. Modern Warfare came out way back in 2007, and it’s not an exaggeration to say it changed the whole landscape of gaming with its breakout multiplayer and blockbuster singleplayer. One character you control dies in a nuclear explosion. It’s crazy.
So a graphically updated version of Modern Warfare would definitely be pretty interesting, and at almost a decade since its release, there are probably more than a few Call of Duty fans who have never tried it. And there are rumors of a Call of Duty reveal coming soon (and it’s also about time to hear about the yearly franchise entry, which seems like it’s going to be called “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare”).
Then again, we might be reading too much into the smiling poop emoji. It might not be saying, “prepare your sphincter for exciting news.” Instead, it might be saying, “haha, poop is funny,” which is very true. Both seem equally plausible.
