We’re used to Hollywood studios releasing one or two Christmas-themed films every year, if only so they can capitalize on those moviegoers who just want to see pretty lights next to the pretty movie stars. Krampus, the new film from Trick ‘r Treat director Michael Dougherty, is not that kind of movie.
It all starts predictably enough. A dysfunctional family – including Adam Scott, David Koechner, and Toni Collette – gathers under one roof to try and survive the holidays together. When one of the boys (Chef’s Emjay Anthony) decides he’s had it with Christmas and tears up his letter to Santa, though, he unwittingly unleashes the dark spirit of Krampus, the legendary child-punishing holiday creature. Now, the family has to contend with a host of evil entities, and each other, if they hope to make it out of Christmas alive.
This movie looks funny, scary, and absolutely bonkers, so if you’re looking for a change of pace this December 4th, look no further.
