“People are always joking that they would give a kidney for a pair of yeezy’s!! Well here’s your chance, I’m 26 with 2 failing kidneys”

That was how Matt Neal began his post in the Facebook group WDYWT (What Did You Wear Today). The accompanying picture (above) showed a pair of the sneakers atop a dialysis machine. Neal, a 26-year-old from Ann Arbor, Michigan, is seeking a kidney transplant. He is on the waiting list for an organ in Michigan, but that process can take years. So in the hopes of expediting the process, he offered up a prized pair of Adidas Yeezy 350 Boosts in exchange for one working kidney.

It is against the law in the United States to receive an organ in exchange for money or merchandise, and Neal took a tongue-in-cheek approach to his post, acknowledging that his kidney “has been abused by being a hype beast [sic].” But that didn’t stop a massive outpouring of support. The post has received nearly 2,000 likes and more than 250 comments. Neal says that many people have reached out offering to donate a kidney for free.

TMZ reported that news of Neal’s situation had reached the sneakers’ namesake Kanye West and his wife Kim Kardashian. The Wests said that they would give Neal a new pair of Yeezys, which were selling for between $1,000-$2,000 at Flight Club, if he ended up trading his pair. Perhaps this will be part of Kanye’s 2020 presidential platform.
