If you’re an adult in Brooklyn who feels like the world is a dark and scary place, and you often find yourself wondering if maybe what you need is a chance to nap and play like a kid again, then maybe you’ll want to consider enrolling at Preschool Mastermind, a preschool for adults.
Preschool Mastermind describes itself as such:
From the laughter and glitter-dusted trail of the nationally-recognized Skipping Club, I introduce to you a brand new course for grownups to re-learn the basics, and experience the ::magic:: of life as it was originally intended. Guess what: You still CAN be anything you want when you grow up! And this class will give you the hands-on wisdom, intuition and playfulness you need to get there. In this one-month adventure, we’ll explore preschool concepts, like sharing and friendship, in order to apply and inject play, wonder, self-belief, and community into our grown-up lives.
Class activities are grown-up takes on existing preschool activities, like the following:
Interested parties can apply for the program by printing out an application and completing it by hand (the school recommends crayon).
Sooo last night a few of us created a mock Preschool Mastermind class and let a 7-year-old girl from @thisisfusion tv come interview us. She was a tough cookie and came in guns a blazin that this whole thing is absurd. If there’s one thing we’re good at it’s playing, and so we played along! Fantasy, reality… Which is which again? We’re like a preschool improv theater troupe… Re-scripting the roles of what it could mean to be a grownup. Thank you to my brilliant fun-making rockstars for getting down and dirty!!! 👑💖 Who wants to join the fun for Summer S'Cool!? Applications are due Monday, hurrrrrry!! (And Hooray!) #preschoolmastermind.com
At the center of it all is Michelle Joni Lapidos, who says on the Preschool Mastermind website that “I wanted to be a preschool teacher for many years, so that is what I originally went to college for! But then I realized that career path meant being chained to a classroom and told that my butt can’t show… AT ALL. So I switched to Fashion Merchandising.” She can be seen below talking with TED about the ways that we need to better celebrate our uniqueness in our clothing and headwear (she recommends crowns).
Preschool Mastermind is currently in the middle of its summer session, but if you’re feeling like you don’t have enough naps and glitter in your life, you’ll want to keep an eye on their page for announcements about fall courses.
