Last month, we told you the rather bizarre story of Justin Lowe, guitarist for celebrated metal band After The Burial. Lowe, a founding member of the band, announced that he was leaving via a lengthy, rambling message posted to his social media accounts, which he then deleted. In the message, he claimed that his friends and family were conspiring against him, and that his life might be in danger. Later, his bandmates responded with their own message confirming what many who read Lowe’s post suspected: that he was struggling with mental illness and needed treatment.
“Justin is ill, and right now he needs more than ever to be shown that the world is not against him. He needs support and love from everyone, and to know that we only want what’s best for him. We will continue to support him and his family as best we can through this tough time.”
Now, sadly, it seems that Lowe didn’t survive whatever he was going through. He was reported missing over the weekend, and Tuesday night his body was found under a bridge in Wisconsin. According to authorities, Lowe’s car was nearby, and his injuries were consistent with a fall.
It’s really hard to know what to say when something like this happens. You hope for a happy ending to a weird story, and instead you get this. Our condolences go out to Lowe’s loved ones. And hey, if you’re struggling with mental illness too, just know that there’s nothing to be ashamed of, you’re not alone, and you can get help.
