Air Jordan VI Pays Homage To “Slam Dunk” Manga Comic

Air Jordan VI Pays Homage To “Slam Dunk” Manga Comic: Nike

During the height of his powers in the 1990s, Michael Jordan’s reach extended across the globe. Japanese artist Takehiko Inoue was one of those who was enthralled by His Airness. Inoue went on to create the hugely popular “Slam Dunk” manga comic series, whose hero Hanamichi Sakuragi is an outcast who finds success on his high school basketball team.

The “Slam Dunk” series ended in 1996, but now Jordan Brand has teamed up with Inoue to release a Super.Fly 3 and an Air Jordan VI that pay homage to the comic. The Air Jordan VI (above) features images from “Slam Dunk” and Sakuragi’s jersey number 10 on the heel. The Super.Fly 3 (below) has a new “Slam Dunk” illustration, one which will never be published.

The “Slam Dunk” collection will release globally on November 1.
