First Photos of the Air Jordan XXX’s Are Here

Jordan Brand officially unveiled their Air Jordan XXX today, a little more than 30 years after Michael Jordan debuted the Air Jordan 1 in 1985.

Longtime Jordan line designer Tinker Hatfield designed the 30th iteration of the shoe, which was inspired by a photo of Michael Jordan’s legendary appearance at the 1988 NBA Slam Dunk Contest. His seemingly otherworldly ability to ‘fly’ kicked off a design process that imagined Michael Jordan as “Mr. Cosmos” — aided, of course, by Air Jordan technology breakthroughs like carbon fiber.

“I've known him for all these years and I’m still not certain that he’s of this earth, he’s like maybe from some other place,” Hatfield said at the unveiling in Chicago. “And I think that's how this drawing kind of started.”

As the preview photos show, the shoe’s asymmetrical top line has a knit collar reminiscent of the XII. The sneaker’s upper is made from the first-ever blend of Flyknit and woven performance material for the best fit possible, and the toe piece features both the Jumpman logo and a new printing technique: a dotted process that’s both durable and breathable.

Of course, it’s the true sneakerheads who will parse the bullshit and determine the success of the iconic shoe. Here are some initial reactions:

The Air Jordan XXX will retail for $200 starting February 12. Start queuing in line now, folks.
