Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman has three gold medals, but not all of her achievements happen while she’s wearing a leotard. She’s featured in the upcoming Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, and in the sneak peek released last week, she models a black bikini. She told Yahoo how much she loved the photo shoot, saying, “It was such an empowering feeling to be so confident and happy with the way I looked. I work so hard for the body that I have and believe that all women should embrace how beautiful they are, no matter their body type.”
WOWWW what an honor to be featured in @siswimsuit 2017. THANK YOU to @mjday & the SI team for including me in this issue. I’m very proud of my body and how hard I have worked to look like this. I of course like everyone else have my days where I feel insecure and not at my best. BUT I think it is that much more important we love our bodies and support each other. It is 2017 and there is NO perfect or ideal body type. SI SWIM celebrates women for being unique and beautiful in our own way which is why I am so happy to be a part of it. THANK YOU @jamesmacari 💛
The 22-year-old athlete revealed that she hasn’t been reading her social media comments since posting the photo, because she doesn’t want to see anything hurtful. She’s proud of her work with Sports Illustrated, so she’d rather ignore the trolls and focus on her own happiness. “When I’m happy, it doesn’t matter what other people think. What matters is that you look at yourself in the mirror and are happy with who you are as a person. If you’re a kind person, that’s far more important than being a certain size or number on the scale.”
It’s easy to see why trolls could be jealous of Aly’s success, and that’s really the only imaginable reason for criticizing her. She is breathtaking in that bikini pic, despite the fact that she’s on a break from training. Raisman’s gymnastic skills made America look good at the Olympics, and her body looks damn good in a bikini. This is a woman who deserves only compliments.
