We’re just a couple of months away from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and while Man of Steel technically launched Warner Bros.’ DC Comics-based superhero movie universe, the new one is where it’ll become real. Aside from the title heroes, we know that the film will also include Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) and more. By the end of this year, the DC Cinematic Universe will be huge, and it’ll only get bigger as the two-part Justice League movie looms.
In the spirit of that expansion, Warner Bros. is on the hunt for even more supporting players to round out said universe, and one of them might be Amber Heard, of Zombieland and Pineapple Express fame. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Heard is “in talks” to join 2017’s Justice League Part One, and by extension 2018’s Aquaman feature. If she joins the franchise, she’ll play Mera, Queen of Atlantis and wife to Aquaman, who in the hands of Jason Momoa looks like the universe’s biggest badass.
Seriously, don’t even try to tell me that Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck can step to that dude.
Though it’s easy to tag her as “Aquaman’s Wife,” and leave it at that, Mera’s not just arm candy. She’s got her own set of powers that include the ability to make “hard water” shapes. Basically, she can solidify water in massive quantities and bend it to her will. She’s taken down entire armies with her powers, and she’s also frequently proven to have a temper.
Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder is directing Justice League, which will likely be a direct continuation of Dawn of Justice. Aquaman will be directed by The Conjuring and Furious 7 helmer James Wan, but we know considerably less about that one. At the moment, it’s being developed in the form of two scripts being written simultaneously, so it could go a number of different ways. Depending on how Mera’s treated by whatever the final script is, though, this kind of deal could take Heard to the next level of stardom.
