Amy Schumer’s already conquered stand-up comedy and turned heads on TV thanks to her Comedy Central series Inside Amy Schumer. Now, she’s out to master big-screen laughs with the help of director Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, This Is 40), and if the first red band trailer for Trainwreck is any indication, everyone should just stay out of her way.
Schumer wrote the film and stars as Amy, a happily single woman who works at a men’s magazine, drinks everyone under the table, and unapologetically hosts one-night stand after one-night stand. Then, she meets a guy (SNL and Apatow alum Bill Hader) who might change all that. Then again, he might not, because Schumer’s clearly not interested in playing by the rom-com rules.
The trailer is packed with (often NSFW) delights, including LeBron James (as himself) talking about Downton Abbey with a sense of real urgency, sex with a workout-obsessed John Cena, and the great Tilda Swinton (in full fake-tan mode) talking about garlic and its effect on the taste of semen. Then, there’s the star-packed supporting cast that includes Brie Larson, Vanessa Bayer, Mike Birbiglia, Colin Quinn, and Dave Attell.
Above it all, though, is Schumer, who’s “just a modern chick who does what she wants.” From the looks of this trailer, we could use more comedies like this, and she’s happy to oblige.
Trainwreck arrives July 17, 2015.
