If you find yourself on a subway train this Sunday in New York City, Los Angeles, London or basically any major city in the world, and you see a few people without pants, they’re not all completely insane.

They’re likely part of Improv Everywhere’s annual “No Pants Subway Ride” initiative. Since 2002 in NYC, people have been dressing in winter clothing minus pants on a January Day and boarding the subway.

Well, unlike the Free The Nipple, it’s not really for a movement or any real positive cause. Improv Everywhere’s thing is flash mobs, and they say this one is to celebrate “silliness.” But I assume most people do it because they like attention.

This year, the event is happening from 3pm-5pm on Jan. 11 in NYC subways, and it’s happening during various other dates and times in more than 50 cities all over the world. If you want to participate in NYC, you can join the event on Facebook. And if you’d like to see if your neighborhood has a participating group, you can find out here.
