Ashley Graham has had a busy summer. In addition to promoting her new book, A New Model: What Confidence, Beauty, and Power Really Look Like, traveling the world for modeling gigs, starring in the new go90 show The Ashley Graham Project, and doing seemingly requisite interviews about body positivity, Graham found the time to post plenty of captivating photos of herself on Instagram.
As we know, Graham is famous for her voluptuous shape, but she’s not a fan of the term “plus-size.” She prefers to be described as “curvy” or a “curve” model, but in a recent interview with E! Online, she questioned whether such labels are even necessary. She said, “I think that when you label women as anything, you’re segregating them. It’s divisive, and it’s all because of a number inside your pants. I’m not really down with it. But, I do know women that love the word ‘plus-sized’ and identify with the word. I’m just fighting a fight for the women who don’t want to be placed apart from other women because of the size of their hips.“
Graham’s bikini photos sometimes attract negative comments on social media, so in an Instagram Story last month, she responded to the haters by saying, “Don’t put your insecurities onto other people. Beauty comes in all shape and sizes. Media should be showing a more diverse group of women and their different skin tones, bodies, and ages altogether.” Graham is doing her part—her swimsuit line with Swimsuits for All is designed for women of all ages, shapes and sizes. She wears her own designs on a regular basis.
Graham also has a lingerie collection with Addition Elle, and of course, every piece looks perfect on her:
As a body activist, Graham empowers other women to love their bodies, but she told Yahoo she often hears from male fans, too. “When I’m traveling out of the country, a lot of guys give me a high five and then they’re like, ‘I love your work!’” She appreciates the feedback. While her work often pushes to inspire confidence in fellow females, it’s simultaneously directed at the male gaze. “I don’t pose naked just for women,” she’s said.
Graham often shares pics of her workouts, and this summer, it looks like she picked up a penchant for aerial yoga, posting shots of a few impressive poses. As it turns out, she’s just as hot when she’s upside-down.
In a New York Times interview last month, Graham revealed, “My favorite affirmation is, ‘You are bold. You are brilliant. You are beautiful.’” She is a woman who speaks the truth—even to herself.
