For whatever reason, men have an endless fascination with body hair, both their own and others. For some, it takes the form of putting glitter in their beards. Others go the manscaping route. Mike Wolfe did something altogether different.

True to his name, Mike Wolfe is a hairy dude. When he first met the woman who would eventually become his wife, he had to work up the courage to tell her about the forest of back hair residing on his body. But eventually Wolfe, who lives in Idaho, flipped the script. Instead of his back hair controlling him, he was going to control his back hair. Wolfe enlisted the help of a friend who is a former graphic designer to shave designs into his back hair. This is far more intricate than having your “hair cut correct like Anthony Mason” as the Beastie Boys once rhymed. Wolfe started with an American flag. That has since grown into a full-fledged Calendhair with year’s worth of date-appropriate follicle artworks featured each month. There’s a backpack for back-to-school time in August and a basketball and bracket for March Madness.

It takes Wolfe about four months to grow his back hair into a proper canvas, and each design takes around an hour to sculpt. Wolfe admits, “It’s disgusting. But it’s funny.” And we have a tough time arguing with him.
