Bella Hadid has been modeling for years (four to be exact), and next month, she’ll walk in her first-ever Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. She confessed to People that she’s a little nervous about it, not because she’ll be parading around in scanty underwear in front of millions of people – she’s used to that – but because she’s not very good at smiling on cue. To prepare, she’s attempting to perfect her forced smile in front of a mirror. (If you haven’t had to feign a grin on command, try it. It’s a practiced art.)
Unlike most runway shows, in which the model’s main job is to, you know, show off the clothes, the Victoria’s Secret extravaganzas are more of a performance. As Bella explains, “This is about personality. It’s about the lingerie, but you also have to keep a smile on your face. You have to interact. It’s a different experience than I am really used to. I think that’s why everybody gets so nervous for this show because it’s so different, but it’s such an amazing experience and a learning experience.”
In honor of anyone who’s ever had to fake a smile, here’s a photographic tribute to Bella’s natural and generally neutral, if not aloof, expression, one highlighting a gorgeous, full-lipped pout.
