It’s easy to imagine the producers of Famous in Love having some trepidation about casting Bella Thorne as the regular-teen-turned-movie-star around whom the show is based. Thorne is one of young Hollywood’s most candid interviews, and the last thing Freeform wants is for something their star tells a journalist to distract from promotion of their new high profile series.
They also probably realize that Thorne’s bluntness is one the reasons why she’s such a sensation and so beloved by her fans. But even Thorne admits her constant candor can get her into trouble. In a recent tweet, Thorne revealed that she struggles with depression. Then after some fans ripped the star for writing that she “came to the conclusion” and wasn’t diagnosed by a professional, Thorne deleted the tweet.
“I took it down because maybe some people were hurt by what I said in some way. I just wanted to say, ‘You’re not alone,’” Thorne told Yahoo recently. “The people you think have the most perfect lives, don’t.” Thorne said that the reason she never sought professional help was because of her upbringing. “I wasn’t saying that I clinically went to a doctor. I didn’t know it was a big thing,” she explained. “You can judge me for believing my beliefs. In my family, we never went to doctors growing up.” Thorne not only avoids doctors, but medicine altogether. “I don’t even take birth control,” she said. “I won’t even take Advil or Tylenol. I power through. I’m all natural.”
