There are two sides to every April Fools’ Day— On the one hand, there’s the roommate who wants to tie your doorknob to the one across the hall while you’re just trying to get to work. On the other, there’s the elaborate, well-funded, often corporate-engineered scheme that looks like so much fun you almost wish it was real. The Internet has turned April Fools’ into a wasteland of bad YouTube videos, sure, but it’s also produced some of the most ingenious fake products, concepts, and other shenanigans we’ve ever seen. So, in celebration of that, here’s the coolest stuff we’ve seen on April Fools’ Day 2015.
1. FUNNY OR DIE “DIPS”
If Vine videos are just too long for you, Funny or Die is here to help. Today the site announced a celebrity-packed launch of “Dips,” a revolutionary service that creates videos that are just 1.5 seconds long.
2. THINKGEEK’S NEW PRODUCTS
The nerdy minds at ThinkGeek have become so good at generating fake April Fools’ Day products that the whole day is almost worth it just to see what they’ll come up with next. This year their “new product” launches featured everything from Road Warrior Power Wheels to Groot Beer to a cat condo shaped like Voltron.
3. SMITHSONIAN ACQUIRES WONDER WOMAN’S INVISIBLE JET
The Smithsonian Museum is home to the most important artifacts in American history, and now they’re adding another one: The fabled invisible jet piloted by Wonder Woman, complete with its own dedicated cleaning crew.
4. CERN CONFIRMS THE EXISTENCE OF THE FORCE
The CERN Supercollider in Switzerland is dedicated to unlocking the deepest secrets of the universe, and today the uncovered a doozy: The Force so often discussed in Star Wars films is a real thing.
5. PLAYSTATION FLOW
Playstation is committed to being at the forefront of gaming technology, and today they proved it with a new device that allows users to experience underwater gaming levels like never before. It’s a little complicated, but hey, that’s the price you pay for a great game experience.
6. PLAYDATING: HINGE FOR TODDLERS
Sometimes, presentation is everything, and while this announcement of a dating app for toddlers by Hinge might have been funny no matter what, the video they made absolutely sells it.
7. THE WALKING DEAD KIDS
AMC’s The Walking Dead is basically the biggest show on TV right now, so it’s no surprise that a Saturday morning cartoon is on the way. It’s even got an adorable undead dog!
8. TUNNELS BENEATH THE PLAYBOY MANSION
Because, sometimes, you just really want to believe. It would certainly add to the Mansion’s legendary party mystique, now wouldn’t it?
9. NATURE: DRAGONS ARE REAL
Respected science journal Nature is well-versed in making sense of our world, so you better believe them when they deliver a well-researched article proving that dragons do exist, complete with charts to back their claims up.
10. THE “INNER SELFIE” STICK
Everyone knows we won’t stop until we’ve come up with the most ridiculous way to take a selfie imaginable, and today Firebox just might’ve figured it out: a selfie stick that captures your…ahem…innermost impressions.
