Best Hotel Bar in Chicago: J Bar at The JamesJ Bar at The James At the south end of a long and legendary party block in Chicago stands a modern, civilized sanctuary, The James hotel, which launched in April 2006 to great fanfare. Everything here is refined and redefined: Celebrity chef David Burke reinterprets classic steakhouse fare inside Primehouse, and bartenders pour deconstructed drinks, developed by master mixologist Eben Klemm, inside J Bar, which is actually adjacent to the hotel. The signature J Hotel cocktail, for example, features Stoli Raz vodka, elderflower syrup, lime juice and a blue-raspberry candy shell. The room itself seems to glow thanks to the use of low lighting, candles on tables and wall-mounted video screens, which are currently airing a modern Brazilian art installation. Guests can sit on one of the low leather banquettes along the perimeter of the room or at the bar, but you would be wise to reserve a table in advance: The lounge can be clubby, especially on weekends. ![]() ![]() Mar 22, 2010
