Madison Rowley has the best beard in the world, according to the World Beard & Moustache Championships, which were held in Portland over the weekend.
More than 300 hairy-faced men made the trek to the Pacific Northwest for the Just For Men-sponsored event to compete for awards in 18 different categories that included best full groomed beard, partial beards and freestyle beards. (Yep, freestyle beards are a thing.)
Rowley came away with the Grand Prize win, but his beard supremacy is being disputed by another European-based organization called the World Beard and Moustache Association. They claim that they are the only organization qualified to deem a best beard and/or ‘stache as the inventors of “competitive bearding.”
World Beard and Moustache Association (that’s the European one) president Hans Hamrin told the Los Angeles Times that the Germans are “very angry” since they pioneered the facial hair competition thing way back in 1990.
“He has made a lot of enemies now,” Hamrin said of World Beard Championship (the American one) organizer Phil Olsen.
Choose your sides, gentlemen. A facial hair war could soon be upon us.
It could get dark. Real dark.
