Washington: Scott Stamnes Memorial SkateparkScott Stamnes Memorial Skatepark
When viewed from above, the skate park on Orcas Island looks like the concrete dream you scribbled on your notebook in eighth grade. A massive, multi-depth bowl sits in the center with hips, extensions, love seats, a giant death box, steel and pool coping and an island in the middle. What makes the park really sweet, however, is the bobsled-run-style flume that wraps around the entire thing, chocked with pump bumps, concrete curls, kickers and hips. Close-minded street skaters will find little of interest at Orcas, but it's a prime destination for round-wall romantics. The ferry ride over is awesome and the camping and swimming opportunities on this beautiful island are top notch. Helmets are required and the wealthy locals are quick to call the cops at even the slightest sign of funny business, but it's worth it to sample a park this proper. ![]() ![]() Mar 19, 2010
