130 Townsend Street Each of Tres Agaves’ 125 tequilas come from distilleries hand-picked and approved by a panel of staffers who make quarterly trips to Jalisco, Mexico to sample new batches. The restaurant also wins connoisseur cred with monthly distillery dinners designed to complement selected vintages, little-known brands that range up to $350 a shot and educational tastings. “That’s when we talk about how to approach tequila, the landscape, the jimadors, the distilleries,” says managing partner Eric Rubin. “We don’t ask ‘Do you get those toasty coco notes in this one?’ We’re not that kind of place.” Drinkers dying to take the experience home can stop by the restaurant’s shop in Roseville, near Sacramento (the only U.S. store that exclusively sells tequila) or join them on an upcoming distillery tour. ![]() ![]() Feb 1, 2010
