With a little more than a week until Valentine’s Day, guys everywhere are scrambling to find the perfect gift for their girlfriend, wife, old lady, cuffing season partner, or Tinder hook-up. Since childhood we’ve been taught that it’s better to give than receive and blah, blah, blah. But who says we can’t have it all?
I’m not saying that you should give the special lady in your life a PlayStation 4 for V-Day. (Do NOT do that.) But there are plenty of other gifts that she will love that you can enjoy too, at least more than you would a pair of earrings.
Here are seven great Valentine’s Day gift ideas that guys will love too:
This doesn’t have to be some stuffy, uptight experience with a French guy in a chef’s toque. For starters, many have booze involved. Places like The Brooklyn Kitchen in New York offer classes that range from cooking Chinese take-out to sausage making. Your partner will be better prepared to greet you with a home-cooked meal when you come home. And you’ll be better prepared to cook for yourself when she breaks up with you for saying “Where’s my home cooked meal?!?” when you come home.
CURTIS KULIG X PENDLETON LOVE ME BLANKET
Artist Curtis Kulig creatively arranged his “Love Me” tag into a Rorschach test-like pattern on one of Pendleton’s classic wool blankets. Not only will this blanket express your desire to be loved by your lady, it will also keep you snug when you take a nap (or pass out on the couch).
Since it’s still the middle of winter, chances are you and your boo are spending plenty of time inside, so you’re going to want options for your TV viewing. When presenting the Apple TV, be sure to say something like, “Now we can watch all of Gilmore Girls and Friends together on Netflix,” and maybe wait a couple of days before you start binge-watching The Wire in HD on HBO Go.
CIRE TRUDON CANDLE
You don’t lose any guy points for admitting that you like a room to smell nice. And by selecting one of the candles from Cire Trudon over some pumpkin spice latte-scented atrocity from the drug store, you’ll show your lady that you have class and taste, even if you’re forced to light the candle after a trip to White Castle.
AGENT PROVOCATEUR LINGERIE
True, your enjoyment of this will be a little more indirect than, say, an Apple TV, but if you can’t see the big picture here then we can’t help you.
NIKE SB VALENTINE’S DAY DUNK
If you were to just buy yourself a pair of these limited edition sneakers with a red suede and cracked white leather upper it would be a little obnoxious. And sad. But pick up a his-and-hers set for you and your lady and poof! you are the king of romance.
SAVED RED WINE
Renowned tattoo artist Scott Campbell created the intricate artwork for this Zinfandel-dominated blend from winemaker Clay Brock. The work features coded messages to Campbell’s wife, actress Lake Bell, which is just the sort of thing you would do for your woman—if you could draw.
