Today is April 20, but if you like your weed, you know it better as 4/20. There are no shortage of urban legends about how 4/20 became the preferred date (and time) to get high, ranging from police code for marijuana violations to the date of Bob Marley’s death. (Both are false. The true origin seems to trace back to a group of high school students who waited until school got out at 4:20 to consume their weed.)
Regardless of its roots, 4/20 has grown into National Weed Day. And like all aspects of our culture, it is not immune to the progression of technology. The bowls, joints, and bongs of the past are ceding ground to the portable vaporizer (or vape) pen. (Although that didn’t stop rapper Waka Flocka Flame from trying to hire a personal blunt roller.) Vape pens heat marijuana herb, wax, or oil to a temperature around 350 degrees so that they produce a vapor which is inhaled by the user. The temperature is much lower than traditional smoking methods so it produces a “healthier” pull.
Vape pens are also more discreet, especially with the rising use of e-cigarettes. So if you’re looking for a way to get stoned to bejeezus today, we found six that will do the trick.
SNOOP DOGG x GRENCO SCIENCE MICRO G
Snoop D-O-Double G is on the Mount Rushmore of pop culture pot smoking icons along with Cheech, Chong, and Bob Marley, so when he co-signs a vaporizer it’s worth taking note. Snoop’s collaboration on a Micro G features a map of his hometown of Long Beach. The Micro G has an easily-concealed form factor and comes with three tanks to hold your weed.
VAPORBLUNT PINNACLE PRO DLX
If you are looking for a water pipe that fits in your pocket, this is the vaporizer for you. The Pinnacle Pro DLX has a water tool attachment that can be placed over the mouthpiece for cleaner pull. It also heats up incredibly fast.
TRIPPY STIX 2.0
There’s nothing wrong with flossing a little bit when you vape. The new Trippy Stix 2.0 features a gold metal mouth piece that will help you stand out. It also has a titanium chamber and bowl designed to help you take bigger pulls and charges from the bottom so you can use it even while the battery gets more juice.
If you’re looking for the FitBit of vaporizers, the Ago G5 is your best bet. The pen has an LCD screen that tells you how many hits you’ve taken and how much battery you have left. It is compatible with dry herb, wax, and oil and starts vaporizing in about 5 seconds. And at $39.99, it’s a great deal.
It may look like the key fob to a luxury automobile but you most definitely do not want to be driving after using this. Aside from its wood grain design, the Ascent allows you to control the temperature down to the degree.
It’s a little cheesy, but if you’re looking to vape in public having a pen that looks like an asthma inhaler isn’t the worst idea. The device also provides haptic feedback, vibrating when it’s reached the desired temperature.
