6 Sneakers Worth Getting Up Early On Black Friday For : Awol

Awol

It’s pretty easy to look at the inevitable videos of people who’ve waited in line all night for Black Friday deals only to get trampled within an inch of their lives all for the chance to buy a cheap TV and think to yourself, “What losers.” But for many sneakerheads, those once-a-year viral videos look a lot like an average Saturday morning at their local sneaker store waiting to cop the latest hyped release.

This year it might be worth it to set your alarm, because there are a slew of sneakers dropping on Black Friday that are worth getting up early for. Actually this entire week features sneaker releases to be thankful for (although try to avoid saying it out loud when you go around the table at Thanksgiving dinner). On a regular week, new sneakers drop on Saturday, however this week is no ordinary week. There are highly coveted kicks coming out on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and the following Monday. New colorways of Kanye West’s Adidas Yeezy 350 Boost V2 and Ronnie Fieg’s latest Asics collaboration all drop before the first chicken is stuffed inside of a duck inside or a turkey. But Black Friday is still the day and Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, and Puma all have serious heat ready.

If you’re looking for another reason to justify getting up early to purchase kicks, think about that resolution to start working out more that you are definitely going to make after shoving that fourth slice of pumpkin pie into your mouth. What better motivation could there be to hit the gym than the chance to stunt in fresh sneakers?

Here are the 6 sneakers worth getting up early for on Black Friday.

Nike

Nike

1. AIR JORDAN 3 “TRUE BLUE”
$220, nike.com
Any time that one of the original colorways of the Jordan 3 gets re-released it’s a big deal. While the “True Blue” might not cause the same frenzy as the white or black cement versions, it is still a lock to be the most hyped release this Black Friday. The famous elephant skin print around the heel and toe are set off nicely by the deep blue in the midsole. And purists will be psyched to see that the shoes have the original “Nike Air” branding on the heel instead of the Jumpman logo.

Under Armour

Under Armour

2. UNDER ARMOUR CURRY 3 “TRIFECTA BLACK”
$140, underarmour.com
Under Armour took Black Friday pretty literally with this all black release of Steph Curry’s third signature model. Nicknamed the “Trifecta Black” it’s either an homage or a rip-off of the “Triple Black” moniker given to Nike and Adidas sneakers. (Of course, it’s also a nod to Curry’s lethal three-point shot.)

Reebok

Reebok

3. REEBOK X KENDRICK LAMAR CLASSIC LEATHER LUX
$150, reebok.com
Throughout his collaborations with Reebok, Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar has applied the words “Blue” and “Red” on each shoe as a way of unifying the Crips and Bloods gangs that are so prevalent where he grew up. For the third and final sneaker, Lamar referenced the saying in Compton that “mixing Red and Blue makes Green” by adding an olive upper to the Classic Leather Lux silhouette. Instead of money, Lamar wants the green in this collaboration to symbolize growth in the community, which is a worthy goal heading into the holidays.

Diamond Supply

Diamond Supply

4. DIAMOND SUPPLY X PUMA CLYDE
Price unavailable, diamondsupplyco.com
The Puma Clyde is one of those unfuckwithable shoes that always feels fresh. That status is even more secure now that Puma has collaborated with skate and streetwear brand Diamond Supply. For the first release from the two brands, they kept things elegantly simple. The upper features the Tiffany blue color that has become Diamond’s signature hue and a black Puma stripe that is embossed to look like a reptile skin.

Nike

5. NIKE ZOOM LEBRON SOLDIER 10 “COURT PURPLE”
$140, nike.com
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of Space Jam, the Nike-owned Brand Jordan is releasing a ton of new and retro Air Jordans, including the famed “Space Jam” XI. But other Nike athletes seem to want in on the anniversary as well. The black and purple colors on this LeBron Soldier 10 are clearly inspired by the XIs, but they look completely fresh on King James’s secondary signature shoe line, the Soldier, which replaces traditional laces with three straps.

Adidas

Adidas

6. ADIDAS NMD XR1 “WHITE CAMO”
$150, adidas.com
White sneakers are usually more of a summer thing, but the NMD XR1s will make you forget about any bans on wearing white after Labor day. The shoe takes the more casual NMD silhouette and refreshes it with futuristic-looking cage to provide a lock down feel. The duck camo pattern on the mesh upper is subtle but will still turn all the right heads.
