Moody Tongue brewery in Chicago is giving us common folk a chance to buy its $120-per-bottle Shaved Black Truffle Pilsner today—but in a cruel twist, we have to win a lottery first.
Few people have even tasted the decadent beer, which is made from German hops, Pilsen malt and Australian black truffles. Only 40 barrels exist. Jared Rouben, former brewmaster of Goose Island, crafted the 5-percent-ABV beer for Moody Tongue and tells the Chicago Tribune that he wants everyone (with $120 to burn) to get a chance to taste it. “The question was how can we be fair, and how can we have equal access to something truly beautiful?” he says.
To enter the lottery visit moodytongue.com/blacktruffle between 10 A.M. and 3 P.M. (CST) today (November 14, 2014) and key in your contact information. If you’re one of the 500 lucky people selected at random, congratulations! You still have to shell out $120 and pick up your 22-ounce bottle at a currently undisclosed location. If you don’t win the lottery, you can buy the beer at fancy restaurants such as Grace in Chicago and in New York City restaurants beginning next year.
