A far cry from her Gossip Girl counterpart, the silver-spooned queen bee of Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Serena van der Woodsen, Blake Lively has plans to reinvent herself by jumping into the fighting cage and carrying a role as a mixed martial artist.
According to reports by The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline, the MMA action-drama Bruised is currently being shopped around at Cannes before it’s ultimately intended to hit the big screen. The film, from director Nick Cassavetes (known for The Notebook, The Other Woman, and Alpha Dog), is said to be about a struggling single mother and former MMA fighter, played by Lively, making a return to the cage.
Lively, a 29-year-old California native and mother of two, hinted last month to “Variety” that she might be preparing for such a role, stating “I’m about to do a movie in a couple months where I’m playing a woman who is a fighter.” Lively was celebrated by the publication as an honoree during their fourth annual “Power of Women” luncheon, sitting alongside Oscar-nominated actress Jessica Chastain, TONY Award Winner Audra McDonald, Chelsea Clinton, and mother of Beyoncé and Solange, Tina Knowles.
Husband Ryan Reynolds also recently made headlines, when he was selected as one of Time 100 Most Influential People, where Lively loudly cheered from the sidelines, sharing photos to Instagram marking her adulations.
