Blizzard Opens Up the World of ‘Overwatch’ with a Gorilla-Starring Short Film

The upcoming shooter Overwatch from World of Warcraft maker Blizzard is pretty fun to play, but what might be even better is the side content the developer is creating to flesh out its superhero-filled world.

Blizzard dropped its first Overwatch short film, dubbed “Recall,” this week, focusing on the character of Winston, a science-boosted talking gorilla who beats the hell out of baddies when he’s not contemplating engineering energy shields. You might remember Winston (and antagonist Reaper) from the original Overwatch announcement trailer that blew everyone away last year.

It’s the first in a series of planned short films, and Blizzard is rolling out other free supplementary content as well. There’s no single-player or story portion actually in the game, so all this stuff adds to the Overwatch world. And so far, it’s all looking pretty impressive.

Overwatch is available as a closed beta to some players right now, and is opening up a beta to everyone from May 5 to 9. The game officially launches on PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One on May 24.
