Controversial laws recently passed in North Carolina and Mississippi have led the British Foreign Office to issue warnings for traveling to those states, reports The Washington Post.

The US is an extremely diverse society and attitudes towards LGBT people differ hugely across the country. LGBT travellers may be affected by legislation passed recently in the states of North Carolina and Mississippi. Before travelling please read our general travel advice for the LGBT community. You can find more detail on LGBT issues in the US on the website of the Human Rights Campaign.

We covered North Carolina recently with Parker Molloy’s “Hey, North Carolina: It’s Time to Flush Your Anti-Trans Restroom Law.” Mississippi’s law lets businesses refuse service to gay couples by citing religious objections.

So, for the record, North Carolina has now alienated itself from a bunch of major corporations, Bruce Springsteen, Bryan Adams, Pearl Jam, Ringo Starr and England.

Great job.
