Long ago, Britney Spears struck up wild lightning in me and it will apparently continue to strike forever. With the first arrival of Lady Louisiana—a nickname I’ve tried to make work for the singer 15 years now—she was everywhere and it was hard not to have a million feelings about it. I mean, it was the era of pop vixens. But Aguilera, Moore, and Simpson never made me wonder the way she did. Spears was like the amalgamation of girls I couldn’t figure out as a teenager, and honestly I’ll likely never understand her power. Now with a more relaxed life, Spears pops in here and there to remind me that I will never be free of her curse. Pretty okay with it.
