File this one under “just under the wire.” Sure, the real Obama’s got a bit more time left in office. But most of us have long had our fill of presidential impressions from the likes of SNL‘ers Fred Armisen and Jay Pharoah, not to mention the scores of others who have tried their hand at Barack’s halting cadence.
Still, this doc, for all its rapidly approaching obsolescence, would seem to bring a bit more heart and soul to the act of poking fun at our president’s ticks and quirks. For this down-on-his-luck, blue collar father from the Bronx, being Barry is a means to survival at a time when the job market is daunting, to say the least.
Likely, the subject’s journey is used in the film to parallel and illuminate the current administration’s struggle to level some of the country’s economic disparity. Or not. If anything, we get to see what clearly looks to be a Puerto Rican cat from the Bronx with a noticeably uptown accent learn to talk like the planet’s most powerful man.
Bronx Obama will be released on October 7th and is available for pre-order now from Vimeo On Demand.
