Last night, at the ESPY Awards, Caitlyn Jenner accepted the Arthur Ashe Courage Award and delivered a long, strong speech that charged the audience to look with kind eyes on those who are transitioning between genders and to treat those who have transitioned with respect. She also thanked sports for giving her a sense of worth, a sense of identity.

“I know I’m clear with my responsibility going forward, to tell my story the right way — for me, to keep learning, to reshape the landscape of how trans issues are viewed, how trans people are treated,” Jenner said. “And then more prominently to promote a very simple idea: accepting people for who they are.”
