It looks like all the interest in the beautifully grotesque fan remake of Resident Evil 2 may have gotten the attention of series developer Capcom.
Over on its Facebook page, Capcom dropped a post from “R&D Division 1” asking fans to chime in with their thoughts on a potential Resident Evil 2 remake—something fans have continually asked for over the years. But it sounds like Capcom isn’t sure it likes the idea.
“However, as the team owns the RE brand, we’re not certain how we feel about this approach, and would like to ask your honest and frank opinion about the ‘Resident Evil 2 Remake’ and what the brand identity is supposed to be about?” the post reads, and what follows are literally thousands of comments of people asking for an updated version of the Playstation classic along the lines of the recently released Resident Evil HD Remaster.
It seems like Capcom has taken notice of Resident Evil 2 Reborn, a remake from Italian studio InvaderGames with updated graphics thanks to the Unreal 4 engine. That phrase about the team owning the RE brand seems especially telling, and it’s likely a cease and desist letter is on its way to Italy right now.
On the upside, maybe this Facebook post means Capcom is giving serious consideration to reanimating Resident Evil 2 into something more than a shambling corpse.
