A new map from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s International Classification of Diseases shows you what the most distinctive cause of death for each state, from 2001 to 2010. If you’re wondering if there’s a range, fear not, there sure is. While Virginia and Illinois have things like heart disease and kidney disorder, there’s Tennessee and Alabama who both have “accidental discharge of firearms.” Louisiana has syphilis, Texas has tuberculosis, and then Oregon, Nevada, and New Mexico all have “legal intervention” out in what seems to apparently be the wild, wild west.
