I want to like CeeLo Green; I really do. I liked him when he was a part of Goodie Mob way back in the 1990s, and I liked him when he went solo. I liked him as part of Gnarls Barkley, and I liked him as a judge on The Voice. I think he has a great voice and is extremely talented. But man, he doesn’t make it easy.
You probably saw Green show up the The Grammys Sunday night looking like a gold Power Rangers villain. The stunt was apparently his way of announcing a new persona, Gnarly Davidson. Ah, yes… like the motorcycle company. We get it, very clever! Now Gnarly Davidson has released his first song along with Little Fun, titled “Jay Z’s Girl”. The song is, of course, a complete remake of Rick Springfield’s hit “Jessie’s Girl”:
All CeeLo did… I’m sorry… all Gnarly Davidson did was replace “Jessie” with “Jay-Z” and replace a couple of words in the lyrics. It’s not even a new song; it’s a parody. This is what Weird Al has been doing for decades. Get your own thing, Gnarly! Also, he’s straight up singing about his infatuation with a married woman… who happens to be pregnant with twins! This whole thing is unsettling, to be quite honest.
