In the unlikely event that you’re sitting at work wondering whether a flu virus affecting only the XX chromosome has wiped out your workplace, the answer is no. Today is International Women’s Day, and in 2017, it’s the day on which women around the world chose to strike for women’s rights and equal pay. The movement, which is proving to be massively successful, has been coined A Day Without A Woman.
Launched by the organizers of the Women’s March, the movement not only encourages women take the day off from work (paid or unpaid), but urges to supporters wear red and purchase goods from small, minority-owned businesses. (Here’s our guide to businesses to support today—and every other day.)
Considering the fact that celebrities carry more influence than any occupation on the planet, warranted or not, we assumed there’d be a lot of powerful A-list messages championing for women’s rights. And we’re right. So to encourage women in their continued fight for equal rights, we’ve wrangled up some of the more impactful posts released from celebrities on social media.
