Charlotte McKinney dropped out of high school at 17, so she missed her own prom, but she made up for it on Friday by surprising Samuel Castro, 16, at his prom in Bloomington, California. The 23-year-old model wasn’t his date — he already had one (and the couple wore Beauty and the Beast-inspired outfits) — but McKinney brought him a boutonniere. She shared a video to Instagram of a dance-off she had with Castro:

The surprise was orchestrated by the nonprofit Best Buddies. McKinney volunteers with the organization, which works to create a more inclusive world by helping people with intellectual and developmental disabilities build friendships and find employment. McKinney has dyslexia and was bullied in high school, so she had personal reasons to get involved.

In January, she told Ocean Drive magazine that she left school because she developed early and other girls called her a slut. “It was just so awful, and that’s why now I kind of use my platform to promote anti-bullying. I try to use what I went through to be a voice for it, because it’s still happening and getting even worse now with social media.”

Volunteering with people who have special needs isn’t McKinney’s only good deed. Showing off her beauty on Instagram is sort of a public service, too, right?
