Chicago Bulls Star Jimmy Butler Built a 6,000 Pound Aquarium Shaped Like a Boombox

Chicago Bulls Star Jimmy Butler Built a 6,000 Pound Aquarium Shaped Like a Boombox: Animal Planet

Animal Planet

When a basketball player signs a 5-year, $95 million contract, it’s not surprising that they would spend that hard-earned cash on some extravagant purchases. But while most guys use that money on cars or houses, Chicago Bulls shooting guard Jimmy Butler used it on something else: a giant aquarium.

Butler will appear on Friday’s episode of Tanked, a show on Animal Planet where some guys make really ridiculous aquariums. The Tanked hosts, Wayde King and Brett Raymer, went to Butler’s home in the River North neighborhood of Chicago and built a 6,000 pound tank that can hold 600 gallons of water and 50 fish. One of the species included will be a “Jordan’s tuskfish,” which is a nod to Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan.

Also, the whole thing is shaped like a boombox, because apparently having 9-by-10 foot aquarium isn’t cool enough by itself to warrant an entire episode of television.

You can check out a clip from the episode below:

It should be noted that this is not the only ridiculous thing in Butler’s home. The house is a six-bedroom, 10,000 square foot mansion with a custom staircase, an elevator and a 750 bottle wine cellar. He bought home for $4.3 million back in September.

Basically, this is just a reminder that basketball players will always make way more money than you could ever imagine.
