A little over a week ago, we told you how Jenny Slate feels about her ex-super hero boyfriend Chris Evans, after she opened up about their relationship in a revealing Vulture profile. In short: Chris Evans sounds like the bee’s knees. On Thursday, Evans returned the favor.
While speaking with People magazine, Evans heaped so much praise on Slate it’s hard to believe they ever called it quits in the first place. After calling her his “favorite human,” Evans expounded on what exactly makes Slate so darn great.
“I’ve never ever ever met someone in my life who has a mastery of the English language the way she does,” he explained. “She’ll give you one sentence and there’s no fat to it. You’re like, ‘You just chose such an unbelievable collection of words that beautifully articulate what you say.’“
Though the back-and-forth love fest by way of magazine sound bytes come off as genuine, a true stone-hearted cynic might be inclined to read between the highly quotable lines, and wonder if there’s something else at play here. Let’s not forget that Evans and Slate are in the middle of a promotional blitz for their new movie Gifted, in which they just so happen to play love interests.
There’s already a lack of interest in the film, in which Chirs Evans plays an uncle whose young niece is super smart, with Slate playing her highly dateable teacher. Whether it’s because nobody wants to see Evans without a shield in his hand, or if people are just having a hard time buying Slate and Evans as an onscreen couple (as they did the IRL version), the buzz surrounding Gifted is muted at best.
So imagine for a second that their breakup was more in the vein of a traditional Hollywood split, which almost always involves a babysitter. No one would pay to see them fake like each other, right?
Instead, Evans and Slate feel like soul mates who just couldn’t make it work because being famous and in love is really, really hard. So what better way to spend more time with everyone’s new favorite exes? We’ll take two tickets to Gifted please.
