Is UFC star Conor McGregor retiring from the world of MMA? If his own Twitter account is to be believed, yes. The Irish fighter tweeted his plans to “retire young” and thanked the fans for the money he’s made over the years:
I have decided to retire young.— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) April 19, 2016
Thanks for the cheese.
Catch ya’s later.
McGregor’s coach, John Kavanagh, tweeted the following:
Well was fun while it lasted— Coach Kavanagh (@JohnKavanagh) <a href=“https://twitter.com/JohnKavanagh/status/722515043376607234?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw”>April 19, 2016
Even so, many on social media remain skeptical, especially considering McGregor is slated for a rematch with Nate Diaz in July. ESPN was unable to get more details from anyone in McGregor’s camp.
But as the worldwide leader points out, McGregor was in attendance when Joao Carvalho sustained injuries during a recent fight that ultimately led to his death. Whether or not this “retirement” talk is somehow related to Carvalho’s passing remains to be seen.
