YouTube truly is a wonderful thing. Where else can you watch awesome BMX stunts and a kitten wrestling with a baby deer within the span of 45 seconds? YouTube is also how a lot of people get their music. Rather than pay for streaming services or download a bunch of songs, there’s a slew of people who prefer the ease of YouTube, and I don’t blame them.
The only issue is that there are some problems with the YouTube app on mobile devices. For starters, when you close it or return to your home screen, the video will stop playing. That sucks, because you need to keep your phone open and keep it on the video in order to keep the music playing. That’s all changing, though. Now, when you return to your home screen or go answer a text, you can swipe up from the bottom of your phone and press play, as though the song were playing from your library. It won’t just keep playing, you do have to press play on your Control Centre, but at least you don’t have to return to the app to play it.
That isn’t the only update to the app; you can now skip back or forward in 10-second intervals just by tapping the sides of the screen. One tap will jump back 10 seconds, two taps jumps back 20, 3 taps for 30 seconds and so on. This way you don’t have to start holding down and trying to move the little red dot with your giant orge thumb, because nobody has ever accurately rewound or fast-forwarded a video that way.
All in all, it looks like the YouTube app is getting some major improvements. To celebrate, let’s enjoy 2016’s three most viral videos, in order:
