A cereal-head in Fort Collins, Colo., freaked when she couldn’t find any Count Chocula seasonal cereal at her local grocery stores. As it turns out, nearby Black Bottle Brewery had bought out the entire Chocula stock to brew a secret Halloween beer.
Count Chocula is the latest ingredient in Black Bottle’s Cerealiously craft beer series. The run of specialty milk stouts has also included Golden Grahams, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Reese’s Puffs. Black Bottle general manager Steve Marrick says the brewery uses a process similar to dry-hopping to make the limited-edition beers.
“We put the cereal into a hopback so it doesn’t get into the beer,” he says. “We did it as a joke at first, but the beer turned out well.”
Black Bottle Brewery will release Cerealiously Count Chocula on October 30. Expect a follow-up Lucky Charms beer for St. Patrick’s Day.
