The thing that’s long fascinated me about impressions is that comedians who go into them in length on late-night talk shows note how it always starts with the smallest of gestures or tiniest of phrases. It’s just a smidge fraction of a person’s character and you go from there. Dana Carvey recently showed little glimpses of his repertoire by showcasing 15 nano-impressions for Vanity Fair, ranging from Cary Grant hating everyone on Tinder to Donald Trump putting on chapstick.
