Next Wednesday David Letterman will end his run on The Late Show at CBS, marking the close of more than three decades on late night TV and the end of an era. Though it’ll certainly be fun to see what Stephen Colbert does when he takes over The Late Show later this year, Letterman is an irreplaceable giant of showbusiness, and we now know that his final guest will be a fellow giant: Bill Murray.

Yes, the great Bill Murray will join Letterman for the May 19 (Tuesday) edition of The Late Show, making him the last officially named guest on the show before the May 20 finale, which CBS is billing only as “an hour filled with surprises.”

Murray’s a great choice for Letterman’s last guest, not just because he’s, well, Bill Murray, but because he was actually Letterman’s very first guest, back when Late Night with David Letterman kicked off on NBC in 1982.
