We’ve seen a lot of Demi Lovato lately, both literally and figuratively speaking, and who would complain, what with the swimsuit pics she’s been posting on Instagram? If the new Cheat Codes video is an accurate prediction of what’s to come, she’s destined to look fiercely beautiful for a long, long time. The video for “No Promises” is set in and around a futuristic city, and the result is simultaneously post-apocalyptic and high-tech.
Lovato, who sings on the track and also helped write it, makes this dystopian world look pretty appealing. With her long hair in piecy dreads and a subtly war-painted face, she dances nonchalantly while mini-constellations swirl in the air around her, and then traipses through an arid landscape in a Flintstone-inspired minidress of torn fabrics. The message: I’m tough and fierce but also soft and tender. While the song is nothing special, it’s no surprise she steals the show.
The video is directed by Hannah Lux Davis, who previously directed Lovato’s “Cool for the Summer” video, so she has a track record for making the 24-year-old singer look good. Here are a few stills Lovato has Instagrammed from the video:
On Monday night, May 22, Lovato and Cheat Codes will perform “No Promises” together on The Tonight Show.
