Fans of the bonkers Saints Row series just got a little present from developer Volition.
Yesterday Volition took to its Twitch channel to show off a little bit of Saints Row: Undercover, a canceled game in the series that was originally slated for release on the Sony PSP handheld (that’s the one before Sony’s current portable, the Playstation Vita). Today, Volition released the prototype of Undercover to the internet, where anyone can download and play it for free.
Volition released the game to Unseen64, where it’s available right now. You’ll need a modded PSP or a PSP emulator, which lets you play PSP games from your computer and which isn’t, uh, strictly legal.
As for Undercover itself, it’s worth keeping in mind that the game is just an early prototype and not a completed work, since it was canceled and everything. It also was originally planned as a portable version of Saints Row 2 before it was turned into a standalone game, so if you’re a fan of the super-crazy later Saints Row games, like Saints Row 3 and Saints Row 4 (the one with the alien invasion and Vice President Keith David), Undercover will probably be a little different from what you expect.
