Priyanka Chopra is having a good year. Not only is she on the cover of Glamour’s June issue, the Quantico star hits the big screen on May 25 as Victoria Leeds in the Baywatch movie, and last month, she was on Time’s list of The 100 Most Influential People. Her Baywatch costar, Dwayne Johnson told Time, “She has drive, ambition, self-respect, and she knows there’s no substitute for hard work.”
She’s also gorgeous, a fact of which she is well-aware. Chopra looks stunning in the new issue of Glamour, which features a set of airy, dreamy photos shot by Sebastian Kim and styled by Vanessa Chow. On the cover, the word “beauty” is scrawled across her body, and while she’s fine with that, there is one word this Indian actress doesn’t want to hear in reference to her looks: exotic. In an interview with Glamour, she said, “When somebody else calls you exotic, exotic is a box—it’s the stereotype of snake-charmers and face jewelry. You’re just that stereotype. But I don’t get offended anymore. I used to get offended by things that were said to me, or how I was seen. Now I educate. If I get pissed off, I’ll educate in a sassy way. Other times I educate in a Gandhi-like way. You know—I have my moods.”
“I used to love the story of Cinderella. My father always told me, ‘You should not want to fit into someone else’s glass slipper. You should shatter the glass ceiling.’ He instilled confidence in me.” Read @priyankachopra’s full interview on breaking ground as a female Indian actress in our June 2017 issue through our bio!
